Three letter words.

I am learning to write a three letter word, listening to the beginning, middle and end sounds.  This will help me in my reading.

Rocket ship

We have been learning about the solar system this term.  We made a rocket with paper and a straw then blew through the straw to see how far our rocket would travel.  

Pirate Maths

During Maths Week we did Pirate Maths! One of the activities was to learn to use different non-standard units for measuring with. We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measure." 

"We was making a pirate ship. I had to measure flat."

Phonics Time

Phonics lessons are a very important part of our Writing programme. In this photo I am learning to hear and record the middle sound in words. When I recognise the pattern, I can write lots of words.

"I am learning words, by telling the sounds. I am getting better."

High frequency words.

I am learning to read and write my high frequency words independently.

"I can read the words and write on white boards.  I can make the sounds."

Day & Night

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

Matariki

Our classroom celebrated Matariki, which is the Maori New Year. We came to school in our pyjamas and had a yummy breakfast together! It is great to share time with our whanau.

"My Dad came and Hunter too. We had so much fun and Hunter's milo went over the table. The toast was so good."

My marvellous Mum!

My Mum came to the parent workshop at school. She tried out lots of different games to help me with my reading and writing. She looked at all my work in the classroom.

Hanging lanterns for Chinese New Year

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. This is the Year of the Dog. We talked about what lanterns look like in the day time and the night time. We tried to use lots of red, yellow and orange.

Lantern 1 is about shapes and lines in patterns.
Lantern 2 is about good luck and great wealth using rubbing mats on paper.
Lantern 3 has glitter painted on it, and it sticks out like 3D.

“It was tricky to draw the string.” said Leo.
